
2025 MingClassics Academy Music Competition – VIOLA
Competition Format
● The competition consists of a Preliminary Round and a Final Round, both performed live.
● Piano accompaniment will be provided by the festival for the preliminary round.
● Final Round Theme: Stamitz – Finalists will perform the 1st movement of Stamitz Viola Concerto in D major with orchestra.
Age Categories and Repertoire Requirements
Preliminary Round:

Group A (under 8 years)
– One or two freely chosen pieces, total duration max. 6 minutes. -
Group B (8–10 years)
– Two contrasting pieces of choice, max. 10 minutes total. -
Group C (11–13 years)
– Two contrasting pieces of choice, max. 12 minutes total. -
Group D (14–17 years)
– Two contrasting pieces of choice, max. 15 minutes total.
– Required piece: 1st movement of Stamitz Viola Concerto in D major. -
Group E (18+ years)
– Two contrasting pieces of choice, max. 18 minutes total.
– Required piece: 1st movement of Stamitz Viola Concerto in D major.
Final Round:
The final round repertoire for all selected finalists is the first movement of Stamitz’s Viola Concerto in D major, performed with chamber orchestra.
Final Round Qualification
Viola Categories (Groups D and E):
A maximum of three top-scoring participants from two group will be selected to advance to the final round.
The jury will determine the number of finalists based on actual performance scores.
If no participant meets the required standard, finalist positions may remain unfilled.
Other Regulations
● The jury’s decisions are final and not subject to appeal.
● Participants agree to allow the organizer to record, photograph, and use performances for promotional purposes.
